Band Guys and Eyeliner 7/3/07

I think it’s hot. However, many people disagree. It seems to me that in general, most people dislike it. I say… if in a band, then you can pull off wearing eyeliner. But here’s the catch… it can only be if you are in a band, and only when they are performing on stage. It’s not something that guys can just wear anywhere… I don’t think that guys should rock eyeliner when going to the grocery store, for example.

My coworker (Marc Chambers) thinks I’m shallow for thinking this and sees no logic behind my reasoning. I’m not sure myself if it makes much sense. But that’s how it is. I’m attracted to band guys that wear eyeliner.

Let me know what you think…

Street Scene 7/2/07

So this year Street Scene has moved once again… from the Qualcom Stadium parking lot to the Del Mar Fairgrounds.  I’m not sure how I feel about this relocation.  A lot of people complained when it was originally moved from downtown.  The original concept behind the concert festival was that it was on the streets, now it’s gone from parking lot to Fairgrounds.  Maybe I’m just being picky, but I can’t picture a totally rockin’ concert at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.  But I think I’m just being un-”fair”… ok that was lame.  Anyways, I could be totally wrong because I remember way back when the Vans Warped Tour was held there, and it was pretty cool.  Either way, I’m going for sure.

My So Called Life 6/29/07

Ok, so remember Jared Leto from that show back in the day on ABC, “My So-Called Life”?  Well he has a band, they’re called 30 Seconds to Mars… and they’re really good.  We posted their music video on our website for their song “The Kill”.  You should check it out.  It was inspired by The Shining, and once you watch it you’ll see the similarities between the music video and the horror flick.  Anyways, it’s a really good video, but it really confuses me and makes me contemplate it’s relation to the lyrics…

Is the song about a girl?  Or is it about going back in time and finding your inner-self in an  old spooky, empty hotel?

Here are the lyrics from the song:

 “The Kill”

What if I wanted to break
Laugh it all off in your face
What would you do? (Oh, oh)
What if I fell to the floor
Couldn’t take all this anymore
What would you do, do, do?
Come break me down
Bury me, bury me
I am finished with you
What if I wanted to fight
Beg for the rest of my life
What would you do?
You say you wanted more
What are you waiting for?
I’m not running from you (from you)
Come break me down
Bury me, bury me
I am finished with you
Look in my eyes
You’re killing me, killing me
All I wanted was you
I tried to be someone else
But nothing seemed to change
I know now, this is who I really am inside.
Finally found myself
Fighting for a chance.
I know now, this is who I really am.
Ah, ah
Oh, oh
Ah, ah
Come break me down
Bury me, bury me
I am finished with you, you, you.
Look in my eyes
You’re killing me, killing me
All I wanted was you
Come break me down (bury me, bury me)
Break me down (bury me, bury me)
Break me down (bury me, bury me)
(You say you wanted more)
What if I wanted to break…?
(What are you waiting for?)
Bury me, bury me
(I’m not running from you)
What if I
What if I
What if I
What if I
Bury me, bury me

New Postal Service! 6/28/07

Good news!  The Postal Service are working on new material and they hope to have an album out by the end of the year.  For those of you who aren’t familiar with the band, the Postal Service is an alternative band with Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard.  They have many hits including “Such Great Heights” and “District Sleeps Alone Tonight.”  Band member Jimmy Tamborello advises fans to check out the lengthy list of studio gear he’s compiled on Dntel’s MySpace page (under the blog headline “My Studio”) for clues as to what the new Postal Service album will sound like.

I’m curious to know what Postal Service fans think of Dntel.  I guess it’s one of Jimmy Tamborello’s “side” projects, which just recently released it’s new album, Dumb Luck.  I think it’s pretty good, but I’m not as crazy about it as I am about Postal Service.  Can’t wait to hear their new stuff.

The White Stripes 6/27/07

Anyone check out their latest album?  I’ve heard mixed reviews.  Some friends say it’s amazing, others have said it’s not so good.  I haven’t heard it yet.  But they’re so musically talented it’s hard to picture them not living up to my expectations.  I loved their last album and I dig their new single.  I’m thinking about getting it anyways.  Let me know if it’s worth buying or not…

Incubus 6/26/07

So I consider myself to be a pretty big Incubus fan.  I’ve seen them in concert a few times, and so far their best show I’ve seen has been at the Cox Arena a few years back during their Morning View tour.  I saw them last time they came into town at Soma, and although it was a good show, it didn’t do much for me.  Did anyone else see that show?  What did you think?  For those of you who don’t know, they’re coming back to SD on September 8 to the Coors Amphitheatre.  I’m pumped to see them again.  What venue would you prefer to see them at?  I think they should do a show at HOB.  That would be epic.  Did anyone see them when they played with 311?  I think it was like 5 years ago now, but I hear that was an amazing show.
